Nov 20, 2024
(KRON) -- A murder suspect who had been on the run for more than three years was arrested Friday afternoon in Fairfield, according to the California Highway Patrol. Jeremiah Marquis Macias Lacy, 27, of Vallejo, was wanted in connection to the October 2021 murder of 33-year-old Christina Velez.
According to the CHP, Velez was killed and a second person injured in a robbery and shootout on East Main Street in Merced. Travis Rucks, 20, who was also allegedly involved in the shooting, was arrested at a San Pablo gas station after providing a false name.
Rucks and Lacy, according to police, fled the scene of the shooting to evade capture. A third suspect, 22-year-old Emari Lee Prescott, was injured during the shootout and arrested after seeking treatment at an area hospital.

Lacy remained on the run as the last known suspect, at least until Friday.
At around 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 15, a CHP officer assigned to the Solano area was on patrol when he noticed the driver of a silver Toyota Camry not wearing a seatbelt. The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver.
The driver, police said, failed to provide ID, and gave a false name, date of birth and license. Police tried multiple times to identify the driver without success. Eventually, the Solano County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene with a fingerprint reader.
The driver was positively identified as Lacy and officers discovered that there was a $1.5 million warrant for his arrest in connection with a murder that occurred in Merced, Calif. in October 2021. He was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail.
"Our officers' vigilance and quick action turned a routine enforcement stop into the arrest of a murder suspect," said CHP Captain Noah Hawkins. "This is a powerful example of how proactive policing keeps our communities safe."
