Police announce additional details on Lester case
Nov 20, 2024
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick Police found Charlotte Lester’s remains in Exeter and arrested Mark Perkins, who has been a suspect since the start of the case, on Wednesday morning for first-degree murder.
At a press conference police said that Lester’s remains were found after they were led to her body by a hunter.
Lester, an East Greenwich native, was last seen in the area of Arnold’s Neck Drive and Staples Avenue in Warwick on the evening of May 16, 2022.
Police said Mark Perkins was Lester’s former companion, and the two shared a relationship in the past.
“We always believed that something had happened to Charlotte, but not having the remains was definitely a key,” Deputy Chief of Police Commander Michael Lima said.
Kathy Wilson, a woman speaking on behalf of Lester’s family, said Perkins’ arrest was no surprise.
“Having learned about the suspects early on through our own investigation, we realized fairly quickly who it pointed to and who was responsible,” Wilson said.
Perkins’ next court date will depend on the findings of a grand jury.
