BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Southern University School of Nursing released an inspiring rap that celebrates the pride, culture and legacy of the university's nursing program.
The rap, called "SUSON Strong," was written and performed by Dr. Rani Whitfield, also known as "Tha Hip Hop Doc."
Whitfield is the vice chairman of the Southern University Board of Supervisors. He is also a proud graduate of Southern University and Meharry Medical College, according to SUSON.
"Dr. Whitfield brings his passion for music, medicine, and mentorship to celebrate the excellence of the men of SUSON and the entire college," said SUSON on their social media page.
The rap's release comes after the nursing program at Southern University made history with the Black male nurses' population. According to the program's dean, Sandra Brown, there are currently 33 Black male students enrolled in the program, which makes it the most Black male students enrolled at one time in the program's history.
