AUSTIN (KXAN) — Officers arrested an 84-year-old man accused of murdering an 83-year-old woman and her dog in east Austin earlier this week, the Austin Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. Police identified that man as Jack Moore, who was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder. He was booked into the Travis County Jail. Officers responded to the 6900 block of Bryn Mawr Drive around 1:45 p.m. Monday for a report of a dead person. When officers arrived at the home, they found a dead woman and a dead dog. The woman was identified by police Wednesday as Linda Misna. The initial investigative revealed Misna's roommate, Moore, was not at the home, and "his whereabouts were unknown," the release said. Police later discovered Moore used Misna's credit cards and made "fraudulent purchases" after she died. Jack Moore, 84 (Courtesy Austin Police Department) Moore was arrested on "an unrelated warrant" by APD's Tactical Intelligence Unit, as well as the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. When Moore was interviewed by detectives, he "confessed" to killing Misna and her dog, took her credit cards and then formulated "a plan to flee the country," according to police. "No other subjects were determined to be involved and there is no further threat to the public," APD said in the release. MAP: Where have Austin’s homicides occurred in 2024?
