Why the power is being turned off at McConnell Air Force Base
Nov 20, 2024
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - McConnell Air Force Base says the power has turned off for most as part of an Energy Readiness Resilience Exercise.
Electricity was shut off at approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday for most facilities. The base says airmen will work to rapidly recover from the outage and exercise their problem-solving skills in order to continue the overall mission.
McConnell says all base gates will operate normally during this exercise.

Several areas are exempted from the power outage and will continue with normal operations. They include the following:
The Child Development Center
Commissary
Base Exchange
Base Housing
Shoppette
22nd Medical Group Primary Care facilities
Lodging
Credit Union
Traffic lights on the base will also be dark, and drivers must treat those intersections as four-way stops.
The exercise will end this evening when full power is restored to all base facilities.
