WHO: Princeton (4-1) vs. Wright State (3-2), Myrtle Beach Invitational WHEN: Thursday, 8 p.m., The HTC Center, Conway, S.C. TV/ RADIO: ESPN+/ The Varsity Network LAST TIME OUT: Princeton def. Merrimack, 68-57; Wright State def. Central State, 92-56 STREAK: Princeton W1; Wright State W1 SERIES HISTORY: First meeting. This is the first of three games in four days for both teams at the Myrtle Beach Invitational on the campus of Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. The second opponent will be either Bradley or Texas State and the third game will be against one of Ohio, Middle Tennessee State, South Florida or Portland. The championship game is Sunday at 5:30 p.m. KENPOM RANK: Princeton 90; Wright State 186 SCOUTING PRINCETON: While the Tigers would certainly like to have the final few minutes against Loyola Chicago back, Mitch Henderson’s team is still off to a good start at 4-1. Princeton navigated a potentially tricky road game on the weekend with a strong second half to see off Merrimack and now turns its attention to three neutral site games. The Tigers are, arguably, the favorite to win the Myrtle Beach Invitational — they have the highest KenPom of the eight teams at 90 with Bradley next at 100 — and have three of the best players in the entire tournament in Xaivian Lee, Caden Pierce and Dalen Davis. To win three games in four days, they’ll need contributions from role players like forward Malik Abdullahi, the Ivy League’s Rookie of the Week, and seniors Blake Peters and Philip Byriel off the bench. Byriel had his best game in orange and black last time out when he contributed a pair of 3s and seven rebounds in 17 minutes. SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE: The Raiders went 18-14 overall last season and finished fourth in the Horizon League with a 13-7 conference record. They graduated the top two scorers from that team — both 2,000-point scorers — and are off to a 3-2 start this year, with two of the three victories against non-Division I competition. The one DI win was an 81-68 decision over Miami (Ohio). Wright State is led by 6-8 forward Brandon Noel (21.6 points, 10.0 rebounds) and 6-3 guard Alex Huibregtse (18.8 points, 46.7% from 3). The Raiders average 17.2 points per game off turnovers, so protecting the ball, something Princeton typically does very well, will remain key.
