At some point, Salazar shot Rivera and a bystander, who was not involved in the initial altercation, police said. Rivera died at the scene, and the bystander was taken to a local hospital where they were treated for their non-life-threatening injuries.
After the shooting, police said Salazar fled the scene but was later found walking on the side of the road, where officials took him into custody. During that process, Salazar was found with a gun, police added.
Salazar was arrested and booked into the San Miguel Detention Center on charges of murder in the second degree, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a handgun, and negligent use of a deadly weapon.
