The dust seems to have settled on Seaboard Station. Landscaping is still ongoing but the newest buildings in downtown Raleigh’s northern gateway are looking fresh, the sidewalks are clean enough to eat off of, and new retail and eats announcements are getting people excited. Historically, no one lived in Seaboard Station, but today, we now have hundreds of homes. The Hyatt House hotel is now open. And there are lots of new shops and restaurants to look forward to as the main drag of Seaboard Station comes together. It’s certainly still in the “fresh and sterile” phase but I have high hopes for Seaboard Station’s future. It seems to hit this balance between being a destination by itself but also integrating with the fabric of downtown. It certainly doesn’t help that the dead zone government district is across the street but perhaps with more activity, it becomes more of a draw and going between Fayetteville Street and Seaboard is worth it. Now if only the intersection of Peace and Wilmington/Salisbury can be redone, that would really make this a gateway.
