WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A man is dead and two people are hospitalized following a house fire in Warwick.
Around 12:30 a.m., neighbors called 911 to report flames shooting out of a home.
The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal told ABC6 a total of three people were inside the home.
“Three people in the house—two got out and one didn’t. A male, and we’ll release that information later today after the autopsy,” said Fire Marshal Timothy McLaughlin.
“The woman that got out escaped from her bedroom window. The gentleman was in the kitchen area,” he said.
The woman who escaped was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Both individuals are expected to be okay.
One firefighter was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
Neighbors told ABC6 that everyone in the community knowns one another.
“I know everyone here, and they were good people. Wow, I can’t believe someone died. It’s crazy,” said Jerry Marsh.
The State’s Fire Marshal and Warwick Fire Department are working to determine where the fire started, and what caused it.
Anyone who has information on this fire or any video of it is asked to contact the Warwick Police Department.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The house is a total loss.
