A 'Good' project brightens Thanksgiving for families in need
Nov 19, 2024
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- GOOD Projects DC handed out free turkeys Tuesday night at the King Greenleaf Recreation Center to ensure every family had a holiday meal.
"It would have been pretty hard," Lisa Stover, one of the recipients, said. "But I want to thank them that I did get a turkey."
This is the third year that the event has been put on.
"Thanksgiving definitely is not a holiday unless you have a turkey on a table. So I'm very grateful," Kathy Williams said.

The head of GOOD Projects DC said the giveaway is just a way of helping neighbors in need.
"Giving back and service is our highest purpose in life," Darius Baxter, CEO of GOOD Projects DC, said. "So many people, particularly in this generation, are constantly searching for what is my meaning. Why am I down? Why am I sad? More often than not, it's because you're not finding somebody you can touch on a daily basis."
Baxter had extra help this year from the members of the Washington Commanders.
"I've been put in such a fortunate position. I was blessed by, a lot of people around me," said Commanders Offensive Tackle Brandon Coleman. "Just being able to give back to the community where I'm at, people that support me now, it's something important in my life."

The Commanders helped ensure recipients have a "good" Thanksgiving.
"It's the best time of the year to get back. Especially because we're so fortunate," said Commander Safety Jeremy Chinn. "We definitely want to give back to people who are less fortunate than us."
GOOD Projects DC and the James Creek Residents Council will serve free Thanksgiving meals on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 100 N St., SW.
