FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle in Fresno on Tuesday night, the Fresno Police Department said. Police say they received reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision at Cesar Chavez Boulevard and 3rd Street in Fresno at around 6:10 p.m. According to officers, a preliminary investigation revealed an unhoused woman stepped off the center median into the eastbound lanes of traffic. At the same time, an oncoming vehicle was approaching the area. The vehicle was unable to stop in time and struck the pedestrian. Investigators say the woman was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The driver stayed on the scene. This is an ongoing investigation.
