FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - President-elect Donald Trump plans to declare a national emergency to fulfill a campaign promise— mass deportations of undocumented migrants.  Donald Trump has confirmed that he plans to use the U.S. military to carry out a mass deportation of migrants living in the U.S. illegally.   Those remarks prompted a reaction from local immigration advocates. On Monday, Trump wrote on his social media network saying “true” to a post that he would declare a national emergency and use military assets to deport undocumented migrants.  “It's very one, very alarming and very shocking to have a president-elect state something so serious to use military presence,” Project Manager of Advocacy & Community Organizing, ELF Priscilla Ramos. Priscilla Ramos works with the Education and Leadership Foundation (ELF), a non-profit that provides immigration services to the Fresno community.  “Apart from the fear, I think families are really starting to strategize and see how to move forward in case these mass deportations do take place,” said Ramos. She says one concern is the local economy which heavily relies on farmers. “A lot of that, you know, Central Valley does feed a lot of the state and nationwide as well. So, you know, having these mass deportations can really take a huge impact into not only a local state, but I would even better nationwide level," Ramos said.  “We've had an unprecedented invitation of people from all over the world that we know very little about to come to the United States. Under Joe Biden. It was it's a train wreck,” she continued.  Republican Congressman John Duarte represents California's 13th District which is heavily agricultural. When asked if he supports the use of military force to deport migrants, Duarte responds: “I need to hear exactly what they're talking about, where the walls are, what what the constitutional allowance for that is. I really want to hear the debate on that. I'm hoping I'll be engaged and I'll be listening. And I am interested.”  ‘Get our families out of the shadows’: Rep. John Duarte presents immigration bill in Kerman He believes Trump’s plan should not invoke fear in the hearts of valley families.  “When they see people in their neighborhoods deported, I want them to know that, those are people with criminal backgrounds. Those are people who've kind of blown their chance at being part of our communities here and here in America,” he said.  Duarte recently introduced a border security and immigration reform act which provides legal pathways to citizenship. "It's got a amnesty program for valley families that are working in the shadows, who've lived here for a long time, who are legal, you know, not breaking the law and working hard and deserve to come out of the shadows," he said. Duarte also says the bill includes a guest-worker program that will protect undocumented agricultural workers and allow them to return to the U.S. if they travel back to their country of origin.
