CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Students in Clovis got an opportunity to become familiar with the Native community and their cultural practices on Tuesday. Middle and high school students from across the Clovis Unified School District gathered Tuesday for the 2nd Annual Native American Student Success Conference. "[The students] learn about the Native culture and learn more about dances and music and how it relates to them as students and how it will relate to them in the future of their education," said CUSD's Director of Supplemental Services Robyn Snyder. In one room, students were shown different dances performed by the native community and taught some of them. In another room, students were provided with a myriad of opportunities and mentors who gave them outlooks on their potential careers in the future. Snyder said the previous year's event was such a success that they plan on bringing it annually. "We really want to infuse our educational system with diversity and acceptance for all of our students," she said.
