NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A Dartmouth man was arrested Thursday after leading officers on a high-speed chase in New Bedford.
Police said the driver, Hayden Andrade, 22, tossed a loaded gun out the window while fleeing an attempted traffic stop.
Officers later found Andrade near the intersection of Brock Avenue and Emery Street and arrested him after a brief pursuit.
Detectives recovered the discarded handgun, along with 18 grams of fentanyl and 42 grams of cocaine, according to police.

This isn’t Andrade’s first encounter with law enforcement. Police said he was arrested last February for dealing cocaine after his home was searched.
Andrade was released on bail, and two months later, he was arrested again following a high-speed chase. Police said they found an illegal firearm and cocaine in his possession.
Despite the felony charges, Andrade was released from district court with a GPS ankle monitor, a decision that New Bedford Police Chief Paul Oliveira called a "significant error in judgment."
"It is unfortunate that, yet again, I have to inform the public that we have re-arrested an individual who had no business being on the street," Oliveira said. "Our officers work tirelessly to ensure public safety, but when key decisions at New Bedford District Court fail to reflect the gravity of certain cases, the consequences affect the safety of our city."
