Tehassi Hill, the Chairman of the Oneida Nation emphasized the importance of having a museum to display the history of the Oneida people.
"It's important to be able to house our artifacts and documents, to be able to display those properly in a large enough space," Hill said. "Our current facility is very undersized... it's reached the end of its life."
The current location for the museum was built in the 1970s, and Hill said the new spot will be able to provide more of a community gathering space with demonstrations.

"Space for display is very important, but also it's important to have community gathering space as well," Hill said. "To be able to demonstrate black ash basket making, pottery or other potentially smaller demonstrations is very important in keeping our culture alive."
The new location for the museum is expected to be completed in 2026. Information about the Oneida Museum can be found on the Oneida Nation website.
