SHAWANO, Wis. (WFRV) - Last week, a deputy from the Shawano Sheriff's Office responded to an unexpected 911 call from a 10-year-old seeking help not for an emergency, but with math homework.
According to a Facebook post from the Shawano Sheriff's Office, the child explained that he was struggling with decimals and that his family was unable to provide help.

The responding officer, Deputy Mason, noted in his report that he was not "overly proficient in math” but still decided to help the child. The Facebook post notes that together, they worked through the math problems and completed the assignment.
The post also says that Deputy Mason gave the child a business card before leaving and advised him to use the non-emergency line for non-urgent matters in the future.
The Shawano Sheriff's Office highlights this incident for the diverse situations law enforcement officers encounter and serves as a reminder that 911 should be reserved for emergencies.
