HONOLULU (KHON2) -- This family of 10 has faced hardships and were on their way to a better life when tragedy struck. Lahaina family of 5 in need of laulima for holiday season They lived on the beach until they got into the Institute for Human Services in Honolulu before moving into a shelter. In 2022, they moved into a "transitional" shelter, where they found help with the Section 8 housing process. Tragedy struck "one month after" moving into the shelter after Dad was diagnosed with stage four cancer. He died one year ago. Two months after he passed, the family found a permanent home. As anyone can imagine, it has been extremely difficult in so many ways and the family is still getting back on their feet. Here's how you can help. The family said they are in dire need of mattresses, bedding and pillows. As of now, they only have one twin bed. Additionally, they could use household supplies and "toiletries for all." The three youngest are girls and would love any age-appropriate toys and games. The boys, ages six to 17, could use school supplies. This family would especially appreciate gift cards to grocery stores, Target, Walmart and anything special for the boys and Mom.
