Isles’ GOTrenton! program wins two major awards
Nov 19, 2024
Isles’ GOTrenton! program will receive two awards this week for its electric vehicle rideshare service.
Plug In America will present a national award to the program at Automobility LA 2024 on November 21. The Clean Cities Coalition will recognize GOTrenton! with its Community Engagement Award at the League of Municipalities conference in Atlantic City on November 19.
“Receiving the Plug in America national award is a profound recognition of our mission to transform urban communities by ensuring all residents have access to jobs, healthcare, and other essential needs and this starts with transportation!” said Sean Jackson, the CEO of Isles. “This honor validates our vision of creating a sustainable, accessible mobility solution that not only moves people but moves our community forward. We’re proving that innovative solutions can address environmental challenges and social inequities simultaneously.”
Last year’s recipient of the Plug in America award was the Hertz Corporation.
The GOTrenton! free service operates seven electric vehicles in Trenton, including an ADA-approved van. The program serves 4,000 riders monthly and has transported over 40,000 people since its launch within the borders of the city.
“Mobility is the first step towards access,” said Jackson. “Our program is not just about transportation; it’s about improving quality of life for Trentonians by providing reliable, affordable, and clean mobility solutions.”
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has been funding the program, which began in 2021. GOTrenton! partners with FLO for charging infrastructure and Ride Circuit for operations.
The service addresses transportation needs in Trenton, where 30% of households lack private vehicles and 21% rely on carpooling. The program has prevented 20 tons of CO2 emissions.
Plug In America, founded in 2008, works to increase electric vehicle adoption across the United States through programs like National Drive Electric Week and Drive Electric Earth Day.
