MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Two former Memphis Police Officers who are indicted after being accused of causing a deadly wreck in pursuit of another vehicle last year are set to appear in court Tuesday morning.
According to court records, former officers Ontarian Malone and Marquavious Williams left the scene of the accident without rendering aid. The indictment also says the former officers used a police vehicle as a "battering ram" to force the pursued vehicle to stop.
The police pursuit started even with no evidence of the driver violating any traffic laws, records state.
The incident is believed to have happened around May 6, 2023. The indictment document does not make clear exactly when the incident happened, but WREG reported a fiery crash that killed a woman and injured four others along Park Avenue in Orange Mound.
Malone and Williams joined the police force in 201 before resigning in January 2024. They have since found another job working with the Hernando Police Department.
A grand jury indicted Malone and Williams on a long list of charges including leaving the scene of an accident and official misconduct.
After the indictment, the two relinquished their role with HPD. Before this exact incident, WREG learned both of the former officers were reportedly reprimanded for other pursuits.
