WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- First responders are looking for a man who fell from a boat into the Anacostia River in Southeast D.C. and did not resurface Monday evening.
Dive teams from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and DC Fire and EMS (DCFD) responded just before 6:30 p.m. to the District Yacht Club, located at 1409 Water St., after witnesses saw a man falling off a boat that was docked at the club.

Crews expanded their search area based on the current tide conditions but officials said the issue is how long the man has been in the water coupled with the dark conditions.
A Maryland State Police helicopter is helping with the search by shining spotlights down into the water.
In an update made on X at 6:20 p.m., DCFD said the rescue turned into a "recovery operation" after divers searched for the man for 90 minutes.
DCFD said land-based units are heading in to help with the search along with MPD's harbor vessels and fireboats that continue to assist with the recovery efforts.
