ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — School leaders in Avon Monday night told the community they plan to make spending adjustments following a comptroller report accusing the district of financial mismanagement.
That announcement came at the district's board of education meeting.
Audit report: Avon Central School District mismanaged its finances
The superintendent started the meeting off largely defending and explaining the district's financial approach and practices in the face of the comptroller's report that said the district pulled in a surplus of more than $8 million over five years.
Some in town spoke up, saying that shows the district taxed more than it should have.
Monday night, the superintendent said while some districts only live in the present and spend what they have when they have it, Avon has focused more on saving for a rainy day.

"There's a continuum on how to do this work and what has come our way is that we've leaned more towards the Scrooge end of the spectrum and we need a course correction," said Superintendent Ryan Pacatte.
The school district will be holding other forums on the matter throughout the week.
