MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A suspect was arrested after police say he shot a man who was squatting at a home next door and refused to leave his property.
Memphis Police responded to the shooting in the 3000 block of Scenic Highway at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived at the home, they found a man who had been shot in the leg.
MPD said the shooting was squatting in a house in the 3000 block of Scenic Highway. He was found shot at the home next door
The victim told police that he had been squatting at the house next door, which appears to be under construction. The victim said he walked over to the neighbor's house because the woman there told him that if he was hungry, he could come to her house and get some food.

He said he saw the light on at the house as he was walking by and announced himself, saying "Excuse me" from the sidewalk.
Reports say the victim then walked up the driveway, and DaQuane Williams exited a car.

Williams allegedly threatened the victim by telling him to get out of his yard, or he would shoot him. Williams then began shooting at the man, hitting him once in the leg.
MPD arrested Williams, who admitted to having a gun.
He reportedly told officers that he was sitting in his truck smoking and scrolling on his phone when he saw the man standing in his front yard, dressed in all black with his hands near his belt line.

Williams informed police that he had told the man to leave his yard, but the man did not say anything or move. He said he then pulled out his pistol, held it down, and told the man to "Get the [expletive] out his yard."
He said the man still did not move, so he shot once at the ground. Williams claimed the man again did not move, so he fired several shots at the man's feet.
Police say the victim fell to the ground and said "I'm hit, big bro," to which Williams replied that he did not care and once again told the man to leave.
Williams said that his mom walked out of the house and the victim limped into the next yard. MPD says no weapons were found on the victim.
Williams,34, was charged with aggravated assault. He is being held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
