INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Prosecutor has charged a 16-year-old boy with attempted murder in adult court. Investigators said the boy stole a woman's car and then shot her while he was wearing a Halloween mask.
Nolan Linne is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, criminal recklessness and auto theft, among other charges.
Early in the morning on Nov. 10, the victim and her family members were in an apartment drinking when they saw a group of teens stealing her Kia Soul. One of the woman's family members chased after them but was forced to hide behind a dumpster when the teens began shooting at him, according to charging documents.
A short time later, the woman and a family member were driving to get some documents in order to report the vehicle stolen. At that moment, they recognized a couple of the suspects standing outside a neighboring complex.
They once again chased after them and eventually cornered them. Police said one of the teens, later identified as Linne, pulled out a gun and fired shots after being cornered. The female owner of the stolen vehicle was struck by the gunfire.
The vehicle owner's family member drove her back to the apartment where they had been drinking. Police were waiting to take a report on the stolen vehicle at the complex.
The woman's family member reportedly said "help me, help me, she's dead," upon seeing the police. The woman was taken to a local hospital where doctors eventually revived her.
The stolen Kia was later located, and cops found a Halloween mask and gloves inside it. Investigators also discovered surveillance video that showed a masked Linne and his alleged accomplices entering the complex the victim had been drinking at.
The suspects were apprehended by police while they trying to break into several other cars. Surveillance video from a nearby business also captured Linne and another teen running from the area where the shooting took place.
Detectives were able to identify Linne from the surveillance images due to this previous run-ins with the law, according to court records.
During a search of Linne's home, cops found several guns and ammunition. When questioned by detectives, Linne refused to speak and asked for an attorney.
Police said Linne ripped a thermostat off an interview room wall. He also damaged a camera, put holes in ceiling tiles and tried to break the interview room glass.
The prosecutor tacked on a charge of criminal mischief for the damage. Linne is being held on a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. in front of Judge Angela Davis.
