MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Minot is getting ready to host their first-ever civics competition. The Minot Area Chamber EDC, in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, will host the competition. Any middle schooler in North Dakota who has an idea about how to use civics to improve their community may submit an essay to participate. If chosen, the student will compete in a local competition with other students, they will then be asked questions from judges and the winner can potentially go on to compete in the state and national civics competition if selected. National Civics Bee launches for Minot middle schoolers Vice President of Minot Chamber EDC, Carla Dolan, says civics competitions are a great way for young people to become more well-rounded. "We want them, because they are going to be our future employees, to know more about becoming involved not only in your community but in your state and in your region and in your nation and to know about civics in the way they affect your everyday life," said Dolan. All essays must be submitted by Tuesday, February 4, 2025. The local finalists and top winners will receive various prizes, and the first-place student will win at least $500. The first-place winner of the state finals will receive a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete for prizes totaling $50,000 during the national championship next fall.
