FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- Police in Fairfax County arrested and charged a driver who they said sexually assaulted one of his passengers back in August in Fair Lakes.
Shortly before midnight on Aug. 10, Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) officers responded to the report of a sexual assault in the 12000 block of Strong Court. A woman told police she was sexually assaulted by an Uber driver while inside his vehicle.
She was able to run away and call police, but the suspect - 47-year-old Sayed Cheshty of Fairfax - fled before FCPD arrived.
On Nov. 15, he was arrested and charged with Object Sexual Penetration. Cheshty is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.

“We are deeply sickened by this driver’s behavior. We take the safety of the Uber community seriously and removed the driver’s access to the Uber platform as soon as this was reported to us. We stand ready to support law enforcement with their investigation however we can," a spokesperson for Uber told DC News Now.
FCPD is asking anyone with information or who may have had unlawful contact with Cheshty to call police at (703) 246-7800, option 3.
There are several tools Uber has implemented to keep drivers and passengers safe, such as its partnership with ADT. Passengers who feel uncomfortable during a trip can get help from a Safety Agent in the app by tapping the safety shield icon. From there, select "Contact safety agent" and get help from an ADT agent via phone or text.
If a situation escalates into an emergency, ADT can call 911 for you.
The app also has an Emergency Button in the Safety Toolkit. The app shows your live location, vehicle information and license plate number, which you can share with an emergency dispatcher to get help faster.
If something does happen, you can contact Uber's Safety Incident Reporting Line to report an incident.
In 2020, Uber also launched a Survivor Resources Hotline and Fund in partnership with the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), providing confidential crisis support and services to survivors who reported sexual assault incidents on the Uber app. The hotline's specialists can provide guidance and connect survivors to resources.
As with most rideshare services, remember to double-check the app for your driver's information, including the car's make and model, license plate number and the driver's photo.
