We're in for a roller coaster ride this week after such a quiet weekend. The bumpy ride won't begin until later in the week, because we're enjoying warm temperatures and relatively clear skies today. A few high clouds are filtering the sun out there as a weak boundary passes through, but that's all we'll see. This plentiful filtered sunshine will make it much warmer than the last couple of days, with afternoon highs hovering around 70 degrees. Additional clouds are expected to roll in tonight, which will cap how chilly it will get. Overnight lows will bottom out in the 40s across most of the area. Our weather pattern starts to get interesting tomorrow as a potent storm system nudges a warm front in. Expect cloudy skies throughout the day on Tuesday, with a wave of spotty to isolated showers possibly rolling through during the late afternoon into the evening. It will be cooler because of this setup, with highs only around 60 degrees. This storm system settles nearby on Wednesday, bringing more clouds and chances for rainfall. A lull in the wet weather is likely during the middle of the day, before steadier rain sweeps across the area Wednesday night. This storm system will start to stall out and stack on top of itself toward the end of the week, which will lead to gusty winds, a sharp drop in temperatures, and the first winter weather for parts of the region toward the end of the week. Conditions on Thursday and Friday will highly depend on your exact location in the DMV, but one thing we will all be dealing with is the wind. Strong northwestly winds will develop and hang around through Saturday, blowing steadily at 20-30 mph in most locations. Out toward the mountains, stronger gusts upwards of 50 mph may develop, so we'll be watching for that threat. These strong winds will send temperatures tumbling, with highs only around 50 degrees near DC and only in the 30s across the mountains. Locaitons to the east may see a few leftover rain showers, but into the mountains another wave of moisture will interact with the colder air and produce consistent snow showers. This snow will fall Thursday through Friday night, possibly leading to significant accumulations along the ridgetops. We'll track this setup closely over the next few days, but as we head into next Sunday, high pressure will returning, cutting off the mountain snow and wind as we bring sunny skies back. Have a great rest of your Monday! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Partly cloudy skies. Winds: NW 5-10 mph, High: 71 (66-74) Tonight: Partly cloudy skies.
