VALLEJO, Calif. (KRON) -- A double homicide investigation is underway in Vallejo after two people were shot to death near homes. KRON4 News spoke with witnesses who believe at least one of the victims was targeted. On Sunday night, first responders performed chest compressions on one of two shooting victims in Vallejo who witnesses say was eventually pronounced dead at the scene. "They were paid assassins," said a witness. "They were not the average gang-banger types -- these dudes did this before." Minutes earlier surveillance video had captured the rapid sounds of gunfire directed at a car parked in an apartment parking lot on Yorkshire Court. The car then pulled out and slammed into a light pole, preventing it from driving into Luis Hernandez's home. "We have almost three years living at this -- at exactly this house and we never see kind of problem like that -- never," said Hernandez. Neighbors are especially concerned about this incident because they say it happened in what is considered the safe part of town. "We kind of call this area, like, Beverly Hills. This is the 'hills' part," said a neighbor named Safari. Safari moved to this neighborhood near Skyview Memorial Lawn from another end of the city to escape the violence. But to no avail. She was playing a video game when the shooting happened and when she realized the shots were coming from outside and not her television, she told her kids to get down. "It was definitely traumatizing to see a vehicle inside of somebody's driveway -- not even the driveway, like, their porch. And, two people were suffering," she told KRON4. One neighbor who wants to remain anonymous, says he saw a sedan speed off with no lights on afterword. He moved here from Oakland a year ago. But says he has had enough as Vallejo's homicide rate continues to rise. "I'm gonna actually talk to my landlord. I'm out of here, man," he said. "Because I know this is just the beginning of the insanity that goes when they got -- especially when you got cats that's shooting like that." In this Vallejo neighborhood, residents are bracing for a potentially violent holiday season.
