SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco Mayor Elect Daniel Lurie has announced OpenAI CEO and co-founder Sam Altman as part of his transition team. The mayor-elect released a statement on his transition team on Monday, saying he would deliver "on his promise to build a world-class team that shares his commitment to an administration rooted in accountability, service, and change."
Altman was ousted as head of OpenAI in 2023 before being reinstated just days later. Altman, according to the Lurie transition team, "lives in San Francisco and loves the city very much."
In addition to Altman, Lurie's team has announced former San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White and former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs among others as members of the transition team.

Other members of the team include Mission Asset Fund CEO José A. Quiñonez, Lurie campaign co-chair Ned Segal, San Francisco District Attorney's Office prosecutor Nancy Tung, and former San Francisco Police Department commander Paul Yep.
"I'm excited to introduce this talented and diverse team who will help guide our transition and lay the groundwork for the change San Franciscans demand," said Mayor-elect Lurie. "Every one of these incredible leaders bring a track record of shaking up the status quo to deliver results."
Lurie, a nonprofit founder and heir to the Levi's Strauss fortune, is a political novice who successfully ousted incumbent SF Mayor London Breed. Lurie edged Breed 55% to 45% in the city's ranked-choice voting system.
Breed, who spent six years as mayor, was praised for leading the city through the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she was dogged by criticism in the post-pandemic years, with voters seemingly frustrated at the city's perceived sluggish comeback from the pandemic.
