WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The Kansas Highway Patrol was busy working several slide-offs and crashes on Monday. State troopers in north central Kansas worked six in their 18-county area. Trooper Ben Gardner says to turn off the cruise control, slow down, and stay farther back from the vehicles in front of you when it is raining. "Maybe you are driving slower, but you're driving behind a vehicle that's really close to you, well, if they brake, you're gonna swerve and adjust, and that quick movement of your vehicle may cause you to lose traction, causing you to put yourself in the ditch," Gardner said. Wichita breaks a 114-year-old record for rainfall Gardner says if you hydroplane, take your foot off the gas, but don't brake. If you start to skid, steer in the direction you want to go, but don't overcorrect.
