Storms tonight could be strong with heavy rain

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A cold front will be moving across the deep south tonight and Tuesday morning and will bring with it a round of locally heavy rain and strong storms. The main part of the energy is going well north of the area which should help to limit the severe weather potential, however we are still under the level 1 outlook from the SPC.
Right now the biggest threat of severe weather looks to be along and west of I-55 with a lower end threat east of there. Strong wind gusts and an isolated tornado will be possible.
The bigger issue Tuesday morning will likely be the heavy rain.
A flood watch is in effect across the area. It looks like we see a large batch of heavy rain develop over the area and then move east, so we are going to be on the border of seeing the highest amounts.
Expect a gradient of rainfall amounts across the area with the highest likely east along the MS coast. This could lead to isolated street flooding in spots by Tuesday morning.
As always have a way to get warnings if they are issued for your area, and be able to get woken up with warnings overnight.
Tuesday will still be mild with temperatures in the upper 70s to around 80 as we wait for the strong fall air to move in. That begins to happen Tuesday night as winds pick up and we see temperatures only around 70 on Wednesday with low to mid 60s by Thursday. Expect much cooler conditions at night starting Wednesday night.
