NORDC launches free after school meal program for New Orleans students

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission announced the start of a new program providing meals to children after school.
The program "Kid Café, is a free after-school meal program for youth 18 years and younger to ensure low-income children across the city have access to nutritious meals during the school year.

The meals are provided through partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank, No Kid Hungry and Share Our Strength.
“This free meal program is a crucial part of our commitment to ensuring that every young person in New Orleans has the nourishment they need to succeed,” said Larry Barabino, Jr., CEO of the NORD Commission.
NORD officials said the program is part of their mission to provide accessible recreational and cultural opportunities while addressing critical needs in the community.

“By providing these meals at no cost, we are helping to eliminate barriers for families and supporting the health and well-being of our youth.”
Meals will be available Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at NORD Commission recreation centers.

Stallings St. Claude Recreation Center — 4300 St. Claude Avenue
Treme Recreation Center — 900 N. Villere Street
