MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting outside Central High School in Midtown sent one juvenile to a hospital Monday afternoon. Police said they responded at 2:44 p.m. and found the male victim in a parking lot. He is in critical condition at Regional One hospital. A suspect was found nearby and taken into custody. Police are calling this a "targeted incident" between a suspect and victim who knew each other. A school board member said the shooting happened on the football field parking lot. A student was grazed by a bullet, and is now in critical condition at a hospital due to injuries from the exit wound. The suspect, who is believed to be a student, was caught near Bellevue Middle School, the board member said. No charges have been filed and police are investigating. Texas woman sentenced for hiring Memphis couple to murder MS woman Towanna Murphy, District 7 representative on the Memphis Shelby County Schools board, sent a statement on the incident: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic school shooting that occurred earlier today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims. We strongly advocate for comprehensive legislation to address gun control and ensure the safety of our students."
