LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — From the bright lights of the World Series to the applause of his hometown, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher and Lexington native Walker Buehler received a mayoral recognition at the Government Center downtown on Monday. Mayor Linda Gorton declared November 18, 2024, as “Walker Buehler Day” in Lexington to honor the two-time World Series champion. Buehler also announced a donation through the Buehler Family Foundation, aimed at supporting local first responders. The donation included equipment like massage guns and leg compression devices to aid in muscle recovery and rehabilitation. “In terms of the physical side, what they do is pretty rigorous,” he said, “I have some experience with that kind of stuff, so it seemed like a natural fit for us,” said Buehler. Buehler also shared with ABC 36 his desire to leave a lasting legacy beyond baseball. “You know having some sort of legacy here, is the important thing for me, obviously the baseball stuff, there’s millions of kids who play baseball and some of us get lucky enough to get to the major leagues, but I think doing something with it that’s positive is kind of what I want to do in the end,” said Buehler.
