National auto parts retailer plans to close six Wisconsin locations
Nov 18, 2024
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) — Following Advance Auto Parts' announcement of plans to close more than 700 locations across the United States as part of a strategic business improvement plan, six of the stores are in Wisconsin.
According to a Worker Adjustment and Retention Notification letter submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Advance Auto Parts will close six stores in Milwaukee County, laying off 51 employees.

The affected stores are at 1920 W. National Ave., 5762 N. Teutonia Ave., 4320 S. 27th St., 7690 W. Appleton Ave., 2329 W. North Ave., and 4934 W. Fond du Lac Ave.
As a result, all employees will lose their jobs. The letter states the closures will begin on Jan. 27, 2025, and continue through March 6, 2025.
Advance Auto Parts says the affected employees are not unionized, and there are no bumping rights. This means senior employees whose jobs are eliminated cannot move into positions held by less senior employees.

Advance Auto Parts, which has been in operation for nearly a decade, joins a growing list of retailers announcing store closures this year. For some, like Big Lots, Dirt Cheap, and TGI Fridays, closures came as part of bankruptcy filings. For others, such as Wendy’s, Denny’s, and Walgreens, the closures aim to improve overall financial performance.
