El Azteca under new ownership, part of new trend
Nov 18, 2024
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)— Salvatori's Hospitality Group has acquired Mexican restaurant, El Azteca.
This is the third locally owned restaurant to be acquired by the group in 2024. Powers Hamburgers was purchased in April and Paula's on Main was purchased in July.
Partner with Salvatori's, Jeremy McClain, said it's all about preserving Fort Wayne favorites steeped in tradition.
"They're icons here in Fort Wayne," McClain said.
John Urbahns, President and CEO of Greater Fort Wayne Inc., Allen County's Chamber of Commerce, said it's nice to see the preservation of establishments unique to the Summit City.
"It's great to have a local ownership group that is breathing new life into them," Urbahns said. "Giving somebody the opportunity to move on [and] retire, but then keeping things pretty similar."
Keeping things similar will be on the agenda for El Azteca too.
"We're going back to the original salsa," McClain said. "We're going back to the original rice, the beans, all the staples that El Azteca was known for. We've actually brought the founders, the original owners of El Azteca back in. So, we're working really closely with them."
El Azteca will remain open everyday except Mondays during this transition.
