(PUEBLO, Colo.) — Pueblo County will be honoring a Civil War veteran on Thursday, Nov. 21. The County will be announcing a special road name in honor of Warren C. Dockum, a distinguished Civil War veteran, and Medal of Honor recipient. Dockum was born in New York, where he enlisted in the 16th New York Volunteers Infantry Regiment. He fought in numerous Civil War battles, including the three-day siege in Virginia. His actions during Sailor's Creek led to the capture of a Confederate battle flag, and days later the Civil War ended. In 2022, Dockum was celebrated at his final resting place in Pueblo, and the City designated Oct. 29 as Warren C. Dockum Day. Now, The Pueblo County Board of Commissioners has chosen to honor his legacy and contributions by naming a county road after him on Thursday, Nov. 21. The event will take place at noon near the site of the future Pueblo County Detention Center off Pueblo Boulevard. The Warren C. Dockum Road Naming Ceremony will feature remarks from local officials, historical reflections, and a dedication to his legacy of service and sacrifice.
