Student hit by car at Heritage Middle School in Painesville

A 12-year-old student at Heritage Middle School was uninjured after being hit by a vehicle while in a crosswalk.
According to a post on the Painesville Police Department Facebook page, on Nov. 12 at 2:36 p.m., police and EMS were dispatched to a report of a student struck by a vehicle at the school.
There was heavy traffic congestion due to dismissal and the Heritage School resource officer was diverted from normal traffic control due to a report of a fight in the parking lot. During this time the student was struck in the crosswalk by a vehicle attempting to drive around stopped traffic, according to the post.
The driver immediately stopped after the incident and pulled over.
The student left the scene and ran back toward the school where school staff located them shortly thereafter and contacted the parents. The student was checked by EMS, had no visible injury and was not transported to the hospital, according to the post.
The student was released to the parents from the school.
The driver was cited for operation in willful or wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property.
