The Princeton and Robbinsville High boys’ soccer teams reached state championship games in 2023, then stayed the course toward duplicating that feat in 2024 when both Colonial Valley Conference Colonial Division powers again won sectional titles Friday to earn New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament semifinal games this week. After a record five CVC Colonial Division clubs reached the sectional final round last week, these are the only two locals still standing. The Tigers (17-2-5) will head to first time South Jersey Group IV champion Southern Regional (17-5-1) for a 2 p.m. game Tuesday in Manahawkin, looking to gain a return trip to the state title game they won last year. At the same time in Somerdale, the Ravens (19-1-3) will meet SJ II champion Sterling (11-5-6) for a chance to return to their third straight state championship game. Head coach Ryan Walsh’s Princeton team came out of Central Jersey as a third seed, defeating fourth-seeded Monroe, 1-0, in Friday’s sectional final. The Tigers, who are led by senior forward Azariah Breitman’s 21 goals plus senior midfielder Archie Smith’s 16 goals and 12 assists, are on a 12-game unbeaten streak, which includes nine shutouts. Their opponent Tuesday, the Rams, who are led by senior forward Aidan Donnelly’s 27 goals, were the fourth seed in Group IV South and beat their seventh-seeded Shore Conference rival Toms River North, 6-3, Friday to earn their first trip to the state semifinals. Southern, which is in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, knocked off Hopewell Valley along the way, 3-0, in both teams’ regular-season finale. Head coach Jeff Fisher’s CVC Colonial Division champs, who may again have to go without leading scorer Nick Grippa (eye injury), but will still have 14-goal, 21-assist senior forward Mitchell Shapiro and 13-goal senior midfielder Ethan Pagani, were the second seed in Central Jersey Group II as they held off fourth-seeded Delran (a perennial power in Group II South over the last decade), 1-0, Friday. While the Bears moved to Central Jersey, R’ville, which is on a five-game unbeaten streak, moved to Group II this year after reaching the Group III state final the last two falls (winning it all in 2022). Robbinsville’s opponent Tuesday, the Silver Knights, who are on a six-game unbeaten streak that includes five shutouts, were the fourth seed in Group II South and held off seventh-seeded Colonial Conference Liberty Division foe Haddonfield, 1-0, Friday. Sterling has been led by senior midfielder Jason Camardo’s nine goals and sophomore forward Connor Maenner’s eight goals this season. The boys’ public school state finals will take place Sunday, Nov. 24 at Franklin High in Somerset. The Group IV championship is scheduled to kick off at 12:30 p.m. with the Group II finale winding up the day’s events at 5:30 p.m.
