King and San Bernardino boys water polo teams open CIF State regional playoffs Tuesday

The King and San Bernardino boys water polo teams still have work to do.
Both teams claimed CIF Southern Section championships Saturday and earned spots in this year’s CIF State regional playoffs.
The CIF State office released the pairings for the three Southern California regional playoff brackets Sunday morning.
King secured its spot in the regionals by beating Los Osos 10-9 in sudden-death overtime in the Southern Section’s Division 3 championship match. The Wolves (21-10) are the No. 7-seeded team in the Division II regional bracket and head to Carlsbad for a first-round match Tuesday at 5 p.m. Carlsbad (22-8), the No. 2 seed, qualified for the regionals by reaching the semifinal round of the San Diego Section’s Open Division playoffs.

San Bernardino qualified for the regional playoffs by taking down Montclair 9-8 in the Southern Section’s Division 6 championship match Saturday. The Cardinals (18-10) are the No. 6 seed in the Division III regional bracket and will make the trip to Reseda to face Cleveland in a first-round match Tuesday at 4 p.m. Reseda (17-9), the No. 3 seed, earned its spot in the regionals by winning the LA City Section’s Open Division championship.
