CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County is making strides to address the needs of its growing student population with the construction of a new elementary school in the Moseley area. The 'West Area Elementary School' will be built at 17151 Westerleigh Parkway in Chesterfield. It's a two-story facility that will accommodate up to 1,000 students from kindergarten through fifth grade, CCPS leaders said. The school is part of a larger community facilities bond initiative approved by voters in 2022. It'll help alleviate overcrowding by drawing students from the Grange Hall and Moseley Elementary zones. Residents were involved in choosing the exterior colors of the school, which was designed using a prototype specific to Chesterfield County Public Schools. When the school opens, Chesterfield School leaders said it'll be the 41st elementary school in the county.
