LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Here in the Commonwealth, Triple A says they’re expecting over a million Kentuckians to travel this Thanksgiving.
“We’re really expecting that this Thanksgiving is going to be a record-breaker. We’re expecting about 80 million people to travel nationwide,” Lori Weaver-Hawkins with Triple A said.
She says here in Kentucky, 96% of people will be traveling by car.
“Gas prices are certainly in favor of motorists this year, here in Kentucky we’re averaging around $2.75 today,” she said.
The Bluegrass Airport is also preparing for a busy week which is said to start as soon as next Monday.
“The weekend prior and the weekend following Thanksgiving, that’s kind of great travel days for people to get to where they’re going,” Lauren Simmerman with the Bluegrass Airport said.
Nationally, Wednesday is said to be the busiest day for thanksgiving travelers both on the road and in the air.
“Give yourself plenty of time to mitigate any stress you might be experiencing,” Simmerman said.
