Warm start to the week ahead of a winterlike chill late week
Nov 18, 2024
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Monday! We are tracking mild temperatures to start your week. Afternoon highs will be climbing into the mid-to-upper 60s today. Those unseasonably mild temperatures will be likely even with cloud cover around through most of the day. I doubt we will see much sunshine, if any at all, through the day. Rain holds off today but the rain and storm chances will be increasing late tonight and into your early Tuesday morning.
Be prepared for scattered breezy showers and a few storms as you head out the door early Tuesday morning. The best chance of rain will be during the morning hours through the early afternoon. Temperatures will remain mild as well, with morning temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s. There will be gradual clearing taking place as the rain exits, don’t be surprised if you end the day. The eastern Kentucky, particularly northeastern Kentucky may end up with the most rain with upwards of 1″ of rain possible in those areas. Central Kentucky will receive upwards of half an inch of rain on Tuesday.
A pair of cold front sweep through the area on Wednesday. There will be an isolated rain chance as well, with a higher chance in northern and northeast Kentucky. The bigger headline will be the cold air that moves in Wednesday night. Temperatures on Wednesday will still be in the 50s before falling into the 30s Wednesday night.
The cold air arrives by Thursday morning. There will also be the chance of rain and/or snow showers moving through during the second half of the day. The timing and exact location is in question. Northeast Kentucky has the best chance to see some flakes falling. Temperatures will likely be above freezing so anything that falls as snow doesn’t have a good chance of sticking, especially during the daytime on Thursday. If some flakes arrives after dark Thursday night, a few elevated grassy surfaces in eastern Kentucky. Temperatures on Thursday will struggle to get out of the upper 30s for most of the area.
Friday will feature another chance of a few light rain & snow showers, but once again the best chance will be in eastern Kentucky. Areas south and west of Lexington may miss out on this chance. Temperatures on Friday will remain cold, especially once you factor in the wind chill. Feels-like temperatures will be in the 20s when you head out the door Friday morning. A winter jacket will certainly be needed throughout the day.
The cold temperatures continue into the day on Saturday. Afternoon highs on Saturday will only be reaching the low-to-mid 40s. You can also expect the cloud cover to stick around into the day as well. After a cold start to Sunday, possibly the coldest morning of the entire stretch, temperatures will rebound closer to average Sunday afternoon. Near-to-above average temperatures return to start Thanksgiving week as well.
