Child killed, officer injured after domestic disturbance in Lawson

LAWSON, Mo. -- Two people, including a child, died Sunday night in Lawson, Missouri.
Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the deaths as part of an officer-involved shooting that happened on Sunday night.

According to the MSHP, it happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday near East 2nd and Montgomery Streets in Lawson.
Police were called to a home on reports of a man assaulting a woman while a child was inside.
Officers said they tried to get the man to come out of the house when he began to shoot at officers, striking a deputy. According to MSHP, officers returned fire and backed away from the house.
Multiple law enforcement agencies came in to assist and at around 9 p.m. Sunday, the Clay County Special Tactics and Response Team went inside. They found the man and the child dead.

The deputy has non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from the hospital as of Monday morning.
The woman inside was found safe.
