(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a crash where a vehicle hit a gas line on Sunday, Nov. 17.
At around 2:53 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Fountain Boulevard and Circle Drive intersection to investigate a two-vehicle crash. Through an investigation, officers discovered that one of the cars was traveling north on Circle at a high speed when it went through a red light. The second car was in Fountain at Circle when it was struck.
The first car struck the second vehicle, a curb, a fence, and a gas line. Police said the gas line was attached to a residence on Carlsbad Drive, northwest of the intersection. A spokesperson with CSPD said everybody inside the home was temporarily evacuated due to the gas leak.
Police were able to stop the leak and Springs Utilities responded. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver who was traveling north in the first vehicle, Chase Jones, was cited for several traffic violations and released.
