GASTONIA, NC – An off-duty Gaston County Police Officer has been arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident. Officer Rebecca Gomez was arrested in Gastonia early Monday morning.  She has worked for the department since June 2021. According to jail records, Gomez is charged with felony assault by strangulation and a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. According to a news release, the Gaston County Police Department is currently gathering facts, and its Professional Standards Unit will conduct a thorough investigation. The Gastonia Police Department is in charge of the criminal investigation.
