Man arrested after suspected road rage shooting in Gastonia

GASTONIA, NC – Police in Gastonia are trying to sort out what happened during a suspected case of road rage that ended with a woman shot.
The shooting happened just before 7pm Sunday on East Franklin Boulevard. Police say people in two cars began shooting at each other in the middle of the roadway.
Police arrested 25-year-old Makiah Lippencott. He is being held without bond on felony discharging a firearm into occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury.
He’s accused of shooting 23-year-old Mikayla Hardin. Police say her injuries are not life-threatening.
A 24-year-old man in the same car as Hardin claims he fired a gun in self-defense. Police have not charged him.
Detectives are still investigating exactly what happened.
