BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- It was another deadly weekend for passengers and pedestrians on the streets of Bakersfield, but this time, it was a 2-year-old boy who was tragically killed in a car crash. That crash happened Saturday night on Brimhall and Jenkins Roads at 8:39 p.m. According to Bakersfield police Public Information Officer, Eric Celedon, the toddler was not properly restrained in a car seat. "A male juvenile was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased by fire department personnel," said Sgt. Joshua Deutinger with the Bakersfield Police Department. Laundry room fire contained at Four Points by Sheraton in Bakersfield The boy has not been identified, but a GoFundMe page has been posted pertaining to the death of a 2-and-a-half-year-old killed in a Saturday night car accident. Bakersfield police say a 24-year-old woman driving a red Honda sedan traveling westbound crashed into a red Chevy SUV traveling northbound. The male driver and female passenger of the Chevrolet, both 26-years-old, and the diver of the Honda were not injured. Authorities say speed or impairment are not factors in the crash. Both drivers remained on scene, but the investigation is just beginning. "We did have several officers that were canvassing the neighborhood for video to help us with the investigation," said Deutinger. No one has been arrested or charged. BPD is still investigating who was at fault in the crash. Then, death struck again nearly five hours later in south Bakersfield off a busy stretch of freeway. The California Highway Patrol answered the call of two pedestrians who were struck by a vehicle off Highway 99 and Houghton Road at 1:09 a.m. Sunday morning. The victim's identities have not been released, and it's still unclear why the pedestrians were on the freeway. By 17 News' count, this is the 50th pedestrian death so far this year in Kern County.
