SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters were called to a brush fire Sunday night that broke out deep in the woods along the Scituate-Foster line. The fire started around 10 p.m. in the area of Tunk Hill Road. A 12 News crew saw multiple fire trucks on scene and crews working to extinguish flames. No word on any injuries or a cause at this time. RELATED: Brush, building fire under investigation in North Kingstown With the gusty winds and lack of rain, any fires that start could rapidly spread and become difficult to extinguish. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, part of northern Rhode Island is in a severe drought while the rest of the state and Southeastern Massachusetts are between a moderate drought and abnormally dry. More than half of Massachusetts, including Boston, is in a severe drought. People are urged to be careful when discarding cigarettes and avoid all outdoor burning, which includes the use of fire pits, charcoal grills, and any devices that could emit sparks or flames.
