Stormy weather expected in NOLA Monday night into Tuesday morning ahead of strong cold front

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Get ready for a soggy start to the week, as heavy rain and storms are set to impact the northern Gulf Coast Monday night into Tuesday.
A system moving north from the Gulf is bringing unusually high moisture levels for November, which could result in 3-5 inches of rainfall for some areas, with isolated higher amounts possible.
The heaviest rain is expected between midnight Monday and noon Tuesday. Flooding is a concern, especially in urban areas, and a Flood Watch has been issued for much of the region.
While the storms could be strong, widespread severe weather is not anticipated due to limited instability in the atmosphere. However, breezy conditions on Monday, with winds near 20 mph, could make outdoor plans uncomfortable.
Minor coastal flooding is also a possibility, especially during high tide. Some areas may see water levels rise 1-2 feet above normal on Monday night.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for all east- and south-facing coastlines, as well as all area lakefronts through noon Tuesday.
The wet weather will clear out by Tuesday afternoon, and much cooler air is set to move in midweek.
Temperatures could dip into the upper 30s and low 40s in northern parts of the region by Wednesday night, with daytime highs struggling to reach 70 degrees later in the week.
Cooler and drier conditions are expected to stick around through next weekend.
