(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — In typical Colorado fashion, the forecast has changed in regard to our snow chances on Tuesday, November 19. For the last several days, models have been hinting at a reasonable chance for snow by midweek thanks to a couple of nearby storm systems. The first system, energy wave one, will push through the Eastern Plains of Colorado on Monday, November 18. This system is expected to bring some heavy rainfall near the Colorado-Kansas border, but it will largely miss the rest of the viewing area. Monday early morning will feature some active weather for the southeast side of the state. The second system, energy wave two, was showing promise in snow chances for Tuesday. However, recent model runs, as of Sunday evening, aren't all that impressive, and chances have dwindled. Here is how the Tuesday event is expected to play out. Snow will begin for the mountains early Tuesday with most activity isolated to the highest of elevations up over the continental divide. This particular forecast model, one that has generally served Southern Colorado well, now highlights Tuesday late morning and early afternoon for the best snow chances. A few days ago other models were hinting at a more widespread accumulating snowfall event. That just goes to show how quickly the forecast can change around these parts. Even if portions of Southern Colorado don't get a ton of precipitation, one thing that will be impacted is the temperatures. Models are indicating a pretty significant, but brief, cooldown Tuesday into Wednesday, November 20. From the anticipated 50s on Monday to the middle 30s on Tuesday, a sharp drop in temperatures can be expected across the area. Portions of the higher terrain may even be stuck in the 10s and lower 20s. With all of this being said, there is still a chance that this relatively weak wave of energy could overperform. Future model runs and atmospheric updates may show this wave becoming more aggressive again. This time around will certainly not be a major snow storm, however.
